OoooooEeeeee, I’m super excited. I’ve got such an adorable little bit of craftiness to share with you all today. Yesterday was supposed to be our big laundry day. You know the one that involves the curtains and bedding and stuff. UGH!! I hate it. While I was mentally trying to prepare myself, the idea for these miniature washboard ornaments hit me like the proverbial wet pink panty.
I'm a procraftinator. I'd rather be crafting that doing the laundry or the dishes or the.......
And it’s one of those really easy, fun things that can be made in under an hour. All you need is some craft foam, small bits of wood (I used toothpicks, skewers and ice cream sticks), aluminum tape or tin foil, scissors and glue. Oh and a piece of rebar or long screw. My secret tool of mass “texturedness”.
Making the Miniature Washboard Ornaments
Set the timer, coz I promise, this is going to be a quickie. Stick the tin foil or aluminum tape onto the craft foam. I love using aluminum foil, it sticks like crazy and it’s waterproof. We’ve used it to create giant pencils and even a chain of hearts garden mobile. Grab that piece of rebar or long screw and roll it firmly over the tape to create little indentations.
If you don’t have craft foam and a screw, you can peel some cardboard and use that instead. Cut out small rectangles. Mine are all about 6 cm x 4 cm (2 1/2″ x 1 1/2″).
Hop onto the internet and download a few laundry related graphics. I used a soap printable from The Graphics Fairy and just made the image really small before gluing them onto the washboard ornaments.
Cut the toothpicks, skewers and ice cream sticks to make a frame for the washboards and glue them on.
Play around and get creative. The “Toilet” washboard just has a very basic frame, while the “Shaving and Laundry” one has a teeny little shelf made from ice cream sticks. Don’t you think they’re just soooooo adorable? Add a string to the back and you’re done.
And that little shelf is perfect for creating a miniature vignette. Look Mom I used a big word 😉 BTW if you want to make a washboard that’s a little bigger then check out this awesome tutorial that uses a tin can.
That teeny little plant in the wine glass is our indigenous Crassula lycopodioides or shoelace bush. Doesn’t she look just like a tiny cactus?
I’d love to know what you think of the miniature washboard? Would you hang them in your Christmas tree?

Those are so cute! And I so agree with you about laundry. I don’t like to do it.
UGH, me niether
These are really adorable Michelle. I don’t know how you come up with these ideas but I have to agree that crafting is certainly better than doing the laundry…which reminds me…
Thanks so much Mary, I can come up with loads of ideas to not do the laundry 🙂
It’s absolutely lovely, my dear ? What an amazing idea for the Christmas Tree!???
Thank you Anabelia ❤️
Oh!! These miniature washboard ornaments are so cute and easy to make. My niece loves to make a miniature house of doll and she is so amazing and very creative. I really love to learn how to do this cutie stuff.
Maybe your niece can show you 😉 It’s so much fun and a lovely way to get back to our childhood
Wow! I love the creativity behind this, you really did a great job. If I can do this, I would definitely love to hang them in a Christmas tree, lol! They are a great thing to behold and look upon!
Thanks so much Naomi, I’m sure you’ll be able to make them. The most difficult part is trying to figure out what graphic to use 😉
Your all crafts are so unique and innovative. More so because most of the crafts you make with easily available material that is not expensive. Your ideas further ignite creative ideas in me that i play with.
Dhanyavaad Indu, that means a lot to me
These are such cute crafts and I love how creative you have been. These are such a lovely thing to do with kids 🙂 x
Kids will love doing this. It’s really simple, they may just need help with the gluing bits but rolling the rebar or screw and finding pretty labels – that’s gonna make their day 😉
Absolutely I would hang them on the Christmas tree! They are just darling~I’m with you…I would rather be doing just about anything but laundry or dishwashing, or dusting, or any of that other boring stuff. Give me a craft or a bit of painting to do!
See now that’s why we’re such good friends. Painting and crafting is always way more fun 🙂
I love being creative but sometimes I just don’t have the energy or time especially after a long day. I would love to try this one day because I love miniature things and this actually looks really easy and something I can do with my nieces
I hear you Maritza. Sadly it’s not always easy to find the time, but I do hope you get a gap to make some with your nieces.
I am always looking for craft ideas, that I can do when I am less busy. I will surely love to try this, It is beautiful done and looks easy.
They are Beola, give it a try when you find the time and let me know how it goes
I always put off laundry day until no one has any more socks. I find so many other things to do instead. These are absolutely adorable! I love the idea of hanging them on the Christmas tree!

Oh that is something so much greater than adorable, the word adorable isn’t even close!! I literally made a noise when I saw the plant in the tiny wine glass. More info on this please?! I’m so obsessed with all your creations!
You are such a sweetie pie Ithi. Love you to bits. That little plant is called a shoelace bush and she’s indigenous to South Africa. The tiny bits I picked off will all become mommy plants soon.
I cannot even believe how creative you are! And I love the term “procraftinator”!!
LOL, it’s the perfect word to describe me 😉 Thanks Gigi
Procrastinating is my weakness….this is so creative and unique…will try make this idea next week!
