How to make acorn cap flowers
These beauties are super easy to make. Start by cutting circular shapes out of you scrap fabric. I used left overs from making these bedspring hearts.

The bigger the circles the bigger your flowers will be. Mine are all between 2 and 4 times the diameter of my acorn caps.

Sort the circles by size and colour. Heat up your glue gun and put a tiny dollop in the middle of the smallest circle. We’ll be layering the circles from smallest to biggest for each flower. .

Carefully fold the circle so the dollop is at the point. Squish the circle, dollop first, into the acorn cap.

Repeat with the other circles going from small to big. The most I could fit inside my little acorn caps were three circles. Some were only big enough for two.

Play around with colors, layers and textures to create visual interest. And if you’re not happy, just pull the fabric out and give it another go.

Making a stem
I love the way the acorn cap flowers seem to float on their slender, wonky stems. It reminds me of a vase of wildflowers dancing in the sunlight. If you’re adding the acorn flowers to a wreath, the wiry stems will help anchor them too. If you’re not keen to make stems you can glue a magnet on, and just call it a day.

To make the stems I used jewelry wire and florist tape.

Use round nose pliers to make a small twist at one end of the wire.

Bend the wire at the twist so the long stem points downwards and the twist is kinda flattened at the top.

Wrap the stems in florist tape. If you haven’t used florist tape before, it’s an amazing, stretchy tape that sticks to itself (not your fingers) as you pull and wrap it around the wiry stems.

Glue the stems inside the acorn cap flowers.

And that’s it. Each flower takes about 5 minutes to make, so you’ll have a lovely bunch in no time at all.

Weave them into a wreath or tuck them into a tin can for instant whimsical décor.

Each little bloom adds a playful pop of colour and texture wherever it lands.

Or gift someone a single stem. With Valentine’s day around the corner, these handmade flowers are a sweet, long‑lasting way to say, “I thought of you”.
