Hello lovelies. I just wanted to share some good news with you all today. We’ve been awarded the Best SA Arts and Crafts Blog for the second year in a row. We are so incredibly grateful, whoot, whoot, happy dance. THANK YOU so much for voting for us, and following us on our crafty DIY journey. It’s been a ball and we’ve learnt so very much. To try and repay all the love and support we’ve received I thought it would be a good idea to share what we did to get our little blog on the map and maybe it will help other DIY and Craft bloggers too.

When we started the blog a little more than 2 years ago I had no idea how to get people to come visit. We used to beg our family and friends just to click on a post. I may even have bribed my kids to click once or twice 😉 Anyways when you create something, you want to share it with the world, but it’s not easy. Especially when you’re a newbie to the whole blogging thing. I made loads of mistakes in the beginning and googled like a maniac to try find out how to get our name out there. Pinterest, StumbleUpon and Facebook sent traffic our way but it came in dribs and drabs and then I discovered these awesome submission sites. So to save you the hassle, here’s a list of my 16 favorite sites where you can submit your DIY or craft tutorials and get more traffic.

30 Minute Crafts

30 Minute Crafts features all types of craft projects, which can be made in 30 minutes or less. Sometimes we just don’t have a lot of time to make something so this is the perfect place to share those quick and easy things.

All Free Christmas Crafts

As the name implies, they feature Christmas crafts from around the world. We normally see a spike in our traffic from around October all the way through to December from All Free Christmas Crafts. Submitted projects may be featured on other submission sites belonging to the Prime Publishing Craft Group.

All Free Holiday Crafts

Just like All Free Christmas Crafts, All Free Holiday Crafts features holiday-inspired crafts from around the world. So if you’ve made something for Valentine’s day or decorated your table for Easter, submit your projects here. Submitted projects may be featured on other submission sites belonging to the Prime Publishing Craft Group.

All Free Kids Crafts

All Free Kids Crafts features child-friendly crafts and tutorials. Most of their readers are looking for fun, easy craft projects that they can do with their kids.  Our projects normally involve a power tool or two so I don’t submit there often. Submitted projects may be featured on other submission sites belonging to the Prime Publishing Craft Group.

Craft Gossip

We get quite a bit of traffic from CraftGossip when they feature one of our projects.  You can submit new crafty ideas, gossip or even a story relating to DIY. When you submit a tutorial you need to choose a category so it goes to the right editor for approval.

Craftgawker

I have a love/hate relationship with CraftGawker. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve submitted something and received a rejection email from them. UGH, Submissions are based on photo quality, which is probably why I get more rejections. (32 accepted, 66 rejected and counting). Don’t be discouraged though, each rejection email tells you exactly why they didn’t like the photo and I’ve learnt so much. You need to set up an account to submit projects.

DIY Cozy Home

When you submit a post to DIY Cozy Home Linda will even help with the write up about the post, which is great when you struggle with words like I do. Just make sure that you give her enough information and a pretty picture.

DIY Idea Center

One of my favorites. DIY Idea Center features beautiful DIY and craft ideas. I love getting creative inspiration from there and we’ve seen a big spike in our traffic when one of our projects are featured in their newsletter. Submitted projects may be featured on other submission sites belonging to the Prime Publishing Craft Group.

Dollar Store Crafts

Dollar Store Crafts features cool, cheap crafts posts that use items bought at the Dollar Store. We’ve never submitted a post since we don’t have a Dollar Store in South Africa.

Fave Crafts

Fave Crafts features all kinds of craft projects, from knitting and sewing to gardening and home decor ideas. Submitted projects may be featured on other submission sites belonging to the Prime Publishing Craft Group.

Fun Family Crafts

Another child-friendly craft submission site that’s aimed at families looking for age appropriate crafts to do with their kids.

HomeTalk

I love hometalk. You need to become a member to contribute a project and they send a HUGE amount of traffic our way, especially when they feature one of our home décor or repurposing craft ideas in their newsletter. Hometalk loves a good before picture to entice people to read more and see what the final project looks like. You’ll need to include at least three photos and 100 words before you can add your blog post URL.

IKEA Hacker

We’ve never submitted anything to IKEA hacker since we don’t have IKEA here in South Africa but I have lots of good things from my blogging friends overseas. So if you’ve hacked something from IKEA it’s probably worth it.

Inspiration DIY

Inspiration DIY features craft projects, home decor ideas and DIY tips. Inspiration DIY no longer exists 🙁

Knockoff Décor

Knock Off Décor features all kinds of DIY and home décor ideas that have been inspired by high-end designer pieces. You need to add a photo of both the knock off and the inspiration piece.

The Graphics Fairy

We often use graphics from the Graphic Fairy in our DIY projects and it’s pretty easy to submit a project. The ladies are super supportive and send loads of traffic our way.

These are my favorites but I ‘m sure there are more out there. Just remember that each submission site has their own rules and requirements about how and what to share. I’ve tried to summarise the submission requirements for you and you’re welcome to download it. Make sure you follow the rules to increase the chances of being featured. And remember a pretty picture says a thousand words.

If you want to get more traffic to your craft or diy blog then try these awesome submission sites.

This is not a pretty picture, just a little cheat sheet 😉

But here’s a pretty picture of Merlin doing what he does best though 😀
