How to Make Pebble Minions and Their Purple Cousins
Who would have thought that a bunch of yellow, banana-loving, one-cell organisms wearing blue dungarees would one day rule the world? Not me, but I’ve been seeing minions all over the place. In fact, we watched every single one of the movies and loved them all. So much so, that I just had to make a few pebble minions to keep me company.
They’re great for playing tic tac toe too.
Isn’t that just cuteness overload?
This little guy reminds me of Bob.
We made a whole bunch of them and added a few of their evil, purple counterparts too. Just coz they have the craziest, wildest hair and I can so relate 😉
In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make your own little minions. But, before we get there, follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram. And don’t forget to subscribe so you’ll never miss a post!
What you need
For this project, you’ll need a few round or oblong pebbles. One-eyed minions are shorter than their two-eyed buddies, so I tried to find a few small stones and a few larger ones to keep it real.
In every group of friends, the shortest one is usually the craziest
You’ll also need some yellow, blue, purple and black paint. Our pebble minions are going to be used to play noughts and crosses, or tic tac toe as it’s known in the States. I used Rust-oleum spray paint since the colors were so perfect for a project like this, and I know how durable the finish is. But any craft paint will work.
To give the minions their personality you’ll need the following:
- Masking tape
- Black tape
- Jewelry rings
- Small googly eyes
- Purple mini feather boa
- Craft glue
- Black pen (optional)
How to make the pebble minions
Whether you’re making the normal minions or their purple cousins, the first few steps are the same. The only difference is the color combinations you’ll be using; blue and yellow for the normal minions, and purple and black for their crazy, mutated buddies. Spray or paint the whole pebble with the first color. Once the paint dries, use masking tape or painter’s tape to mask off one half.
Try to line the tape up evenly so you have a neat, straight line between the one color and the next. Spray or paint the second color.
When the second color dries, carefully remove the tape and you should end up with something like this.
They’re starting to look a little more minion-ish 😀 Time to give them each a little personality.
Adding eyes, goggles, and hair
Minions wouldn’t be minions without their goggles right!!? They’re pretty easy to make too. All you need are jewelry rings and small googly eyes. You can paint the eyes on too if you prefer.
Glue the googly eyes inside the rings and then onto the minion. Add a thin strip of black tape to finish them off. I used black electrical tape, but if you can’t find any, you can draw the band with a black permanent marker. I also drew small hearts on the one-eyed yellow pebble minions and pockets on their bigger two-eyed buddies.
Play around with their features to create unique characteristics.
For their evil, mutated cousins, use a small piece of that feathered purple boa to make some crazy hair.
Simply glue it on top of the pebble.
Aren’t they adorable? I can’t decide which ones I like more. The mutated purple, pebble minions with their wild and wacky hairdos…….
Or their little yellow and blue buddies.
