Wickedly Wonderful Miniature Witch Legs in a Cauldron

Oh dear me, it really isn’t a good time to be a plastic doll in our home. If we’re not dismembering them to turn them into Spider-Girl, we’re pulling their legs off to make these wickedly wonderful, miniature witch legs in a cauldron.

I’ve always wanted a pair and when I saw this post that our friends, Handan and Greg over at the Navage Patch shared, I just knew I was going to make a miniature version.

Wouldn’t they look wonderful outside a doll’s house for Halloween? And they’re the perfect size for when you don’t have a lot of space for spooky decor. Plus they’re super easy to make too.

But, before we get to the tutorial, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram. And don’t forget to subscribe so you’ll never miss a post!

What you need

For this cute 30 minute Halloween craft idea, you’ll need the bottom half of a plastic doll’s legs and some boot like doll shoes.

You’ll also need:

  • Steel wool or fine sandpaper
  • Orange and grey paint
  • Black electric tape or Sharpie
  • Moss and florist foam
  • Small cauldron – if you can’t find a cauldron, a small plastic container or bucket will work too.

The doll legs I used were really smooth. I would love to know what kind of razor she used before we took those legs off 😉 To roughen them up a little I used some steel wool. It’s way easier than trying to sand the legs. Give them a quick wipe after sanding and then paint them both a bright, happy orange. Purple would look gorgeous too.

Once the paint dries, cut the black electric tape into thin strips and wrap the strips around the legs to create stripy stockings. If you have a steady hand you can use a Sharpie to create the black stripes. My hand wobbled like a drunken spider when I tried, so the electric tape was the only way for me to go 😀

And finally, push a toothpick into the top of the legs.

Right, that’s the legs done 😀 Now we just have to get the cauldron ready. Cut a small piece of florist foam to fit inside the cauldron.

Paint the moss a light grey color. We often paint moss to fit in with our projects and I wanted to mimic the Spanish moss Handan and Greg used in their life-size version. Drenching the moss in food coloring also works. Glue the faux Spanish Moss on top of the florist foam.

Place the moss-covered foam inside the cauldron and stick the witch’s legs on top.

It’s that easy 😉

Adding some extra miniature bits

To finish off the miniature witch legs in a cauldron scene I made a “No Parking” sign, from an ice cream stick and a skewer. Paint the sign black and handwrite a little something on in a white or silver permanent marker. That sign made my hubby laugh out loud 😀 and I’m hoping it puts a smile on your face too.

The little pumpkins are all made from clay. Just roll the clay into small balls and lightly press around the balls to create pumpkiny sections. Squish a teeny, tiny little twig in for the stalk. A little easier than making hollow concrete pumpkins 😉

To make the broom, take a handful of coconut fiber and comb it lightly to straighten it out.

Wrap the coconut fiber around the bottom of a skewer

And tie the fiber to the skewer with a piece of string. Trim to neaten up.
