Bottles & Wood Centerpiece
Add something special to any occasion with this eye-catching, easy-to-make centerpiece. Just grab some empty bottles that are all the same size and a gorgeous slice of wood. Honestly the most difficult thing about making this centerpiece is sanding the the wood slice. We found our slice on the side of the road and it was a bit warped so we had to use a mouse sander so we could get into all the little dips.
I love how wood feels after sanding, it’s alive and so warm – nature is amazing. Once we finished sanding, we gave the wood slice a coat of “food safe” varnish for protection and then we grabbed some beers. Well three beers actually because we needed three bottles for the legs. Open the beer, enjoy and remember to keep the lids. Oh and don’t move onto the next step when the beer is finished, it involves power tools and beer and power tools don’t mix, ever. Rather wait until the next morning. Put the three bottles on a level surface, with their lids on, and place the slice of wood on top. Carefully position the slice of wood on the three bottles and test if it’s stable – our Cleo offered to test it out for us. If kitty falls off, you’ll need to give her a cuddle and then re-arrange the bottles.
Remove the slice of wood and a dab a little paint to the lids and then put the slice back on the bottles.
Use a hole saw to drill three holes on the paint marks left by the bottle. Cutting clean holes with hole saws requires a little skill and practice, but hubby has had lots of practice so it was super quick. If you’re unsure, here a short video that shows you how. We used a 28 mm hole saw.
That’s it.
Push the bottle necks into the holes, add some lavender to keep the flies away and the centerpiece is done.
You can use any bottles, as long as they’re the same height and general size. Wine bottles would look stunning, but we don’t drink wine so we’ll have to ask some friends to save their bottles for us.
Disclaimer: No cat was hurt during the making of this centerpiece.
It is so much fun discovering new old posts by you Michelle. This is another one that is so simple yet so original and stunning. Sharing this one!
Aww Mary, thank you so very much.
Michelle, what a neat centerpiece, and you are so funny! I’m don’t drink much at all, and I don’t care for beer or wine. I would have to use water bottles, LOL.
No I’m sure I wouldn’t have a problem getting bottles for one of these centerpieces.
Lol, thanks so much Linda
I cannot get enough of your blog! I keep scrolling, and scrolling and getting excited for all your cool ideas! This one is definitely on my to do list. 🙂
Thanks so much Tracey and your stuffs just as inspirational. Loving your whiskey stories 😉
This is such a simple, unique idea and it really looks stunning. We do drink wine so if you’d like to send some ever we’d be happy to drink it for you! Wondering if the wine bottles would poke out enough for it to be safe enough to pop candles in? I am definitely borrowing this idea, and having a play with it!
Lol 😀 Wine bottles work really well, their necks are a bit longer than the average beer bottle so they’re perfect for adding a candle. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours Sarah.
Awesome, thank you so much unikatissima
