My baby turned 16 in July and she wanted to celebrate her birthday in true lady-like style. Being a bit of a cupcake and pastry addict aficionado she decided to go for a Breakfast at Tiffany’s theme. Sounds easy enough. I just had to find lots of diamonds and pearls and decorate the venue using black, white, and Tiffany blue and everyone would know what the theme was, right? Wrong, black and white is easy and I have lots of fake jewels, but Tiffany blue……… Do you know how difficult it was to find things that are just the right blue?  🙁 Impossible, it was either too blue, too dark, too pastel or just too something.

To try and distract myself from finding that elusive blue color I decided to tackle the easy bits first. We needed containers to display all those gorgeous fake diamonds and pearls and I had some tin buckets lying around. They didn’t really fit the glamorous theme but as they say in the classics, there’s nothing that a little Mod Podge and wrapping paper can’t fix. 😎

Don’t you just love this delightful damask print on the wrapping paper? There’s nothing quite like damask to add a touch of drama and elegance to any setting. These delightful little buckets were super easy to make and cost next to nothing.

How To Transform a Bucket with Wrapping Paper

I found the easiest way to figure out how to cut the wrapping paper to fit around the buckets is chalk. Simply use chalk to draw around the base and top rim of the buckets and then carefully, but firmly rolled the bucket on the back of the wrapping paper.

Let the bucket roll naturally all the way around and then cut along the chalk marks.

Once the wrapping paper had been cut, I just glued it onto the bucket and added a ribbon to tidy up the edges.

The old bucket handles also needed a makeover. We used some plastic beads that looked like diamonds and pushed them onto jewelry wire to make new handles.

We filled the buckets with flowers and heart shaped glass beads to create a rich, jewel like display on the tables. There’s nothing quite like damask to add a touch of old world class.

And we arranged more flowers in a beautiful old silver coffee pot and sugar bowl.

Flowers everywhere

Fortunately the cup cakes and macaroons, made by the lovely people at River Meadow Manor, added the right hint of blue.

When my son saw all the delicious treats he reminded me of a science experiment he did at school where they put flowers in food coloring and one light bulb moment later I had found my own Tiffany blue. Yup, she’d been hiding in the food coloring all along.

Making Some Tiffany Blue Roses

I begged the ladies at River Meadow Manor to give me some food coloring and one hour later………..

……. the white roses had turned a beautiful robin egg blue. It’s absolutely fascinating to watch, the more food coloring you add the bluer the roses get. For an even bigger statement, I should have made some Oreo dipped roses too, but I was running out of time.

Aren’t they stunning? Thank goodness my son was concentrating in science and that the ladies had food coloring they didn’t mind sharing.

If you want to create something similar don’t forget to share.

OH and if ever you’re in the Centurion area, you have to pop into River Meadow Manor. The staff are so helpful and they went out of their way to make the day extra special. It’s was the perfect spot to hold a sweet 16th  and the venue is breathtaking. Just look at this incredible blue gum tree carving that overlooks the lush gardens.

It blows my mind, kinda like my daughter does. I’m super proud of the gorgeous lady she’s become and cannot even begin to describe how her beautiful soul enriches our lives everyday. Happy birthday Talea J, I love you more than words can ever say.
