Romantic Lampshade – Quick & Easy Revamp

A beautiful lampshade can add so much ambiance to a room, but it’s not always easy finding something that just right for your space. Here’s a quick and easy way to update any lampshade and turn it into something a little more special.

All you need

All you need is some dress trimmings from the local haberdashery, an old lampshade and a glue gun. Pick the trimmings that match the look you want to go for. This lampshade stood in our bedroom for years so I chose a soft, romantic little trim made from seed beads and shells, but any kind of trimming will work. I’ve seen some stunning ones made from feather, coins and even pompoms :-)

Use a glue gun to glue the beads

Heat up the glue gun and then slowly glue around the bottom edge of the lampshade and stick the dress trimming down as you move around. I did little bits at a time while the glue was still hottish and sticky. Hot glue scares me a little, I’ve been burnt a few times so I tend to err on the side of caution.

Reattach the light

Continue gluing until you’ve gone all the way around and then cut the trimming, fold over and glue the end bitty down. You can use lots of layers of trimmings, one on top of the other until you’re happy with the look and then reattach the lampshade to the lamp base.

So romantic

I drape all my fake pearls over the lampshade coz I’ve run out of fake jewelry storage. But it adds to the look 8-) Well that’s my theory anyway.

Our little meerkat

Our poor little meerkat statue suffers from the same fate, lol!!

It even looks pretty at night

I love our old to new romantic lampshade, what do you think? Have you updated a lampshade in a fun and easy way. Please share, I’d love to hear all about it.

Love what you've done to your lampshade! Fun way to turn a plain shade into a beautiful romantic one. I love the dangling trim, and adding the fake pearls is very clever and look great. Love it!

Thanks so much Linda. It's one of my favorite ways to change a lampshade :-)

Michelle, I also had an old lamp that was falling apart. I used some fabric tape to hold the broken bottom together. As for the top, I added a bunch of lace ribbons and a fancy bow...haha. It reminded me of your pretty lampshade. Quick, easy with loads of romantic character. And now you have someplace to hang all the pearls... even if your statue is not happy!

Michelle, I love the detail you added to the lamp! That trim is so pretty!! Of course draping necklaces over decor always looks great whether it's a lamp or a meerkat. ;)

I've NEVER even thought about making a lampshade "romantic"!!! HA! My brain just doesn't ALWAYS think outside of the box!

That's just so pretty. I'v got so much spare bits and pieces of trimmings lying around. Lampshades are no longer safe in our house, lol :-)

Lol!! I know the feeling, every lampshade in our house has received the same treatment, except the one in my son's room. He would never talk to me again if I tried putting beads and lace around it :-) Thanks for stopping by Anon and leaving a comment, I really appreciate it.
