Chain of Hearts Garden Mobile – Easy DIY

Do you want to add a little something special to your garden? Then this Chain of Hearts garden mobile could be just what you’re looking for.

It’s inexpensive and lots of fun to make. The perfect way to show your garden a little love this Spring.

Right; before I share how to make a chain of hearts garden mobile, be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram. And don’t forget to subscribe so you’ll never miss a post!

What you need

  • An old lampshade (you only need the frame)
  • Aluminium tape
  • Card stock
  • Fishing line
  • Scissors
  • Large silver star or any other trinket (optional)
  • Sizzix Big Shot and embossing folders (optional)

How to make a Chain of Hearts Garden Mobile

Cover the card stock on both sides with aluminium tape. I love using self-adhesive aluminium tape, it’s much cheaper than pewter and it sticks like crazy. One roll goes a loooooooong way, and it’s waterproof too.

If you have an embossing machine, you can add some texture and patterns for a little extra oomph. If you don’t have one, don’t worry. You can use a pen to doodle on the tape too.

Using scissors, cut out lots of hearts from the aluminium-covered card stock. They can be any size or shape. The amount you need will depend on how big your lampshade is. I cut out about 80 hearts, in different sizes.

Make a small hole at the top and bottom of each heart and string the hearts together using the fishing line. Finally, leave a 20 cm piece of line to tie the strings to the lamp shape.

Add as many “heart strings” as you like until you’re happy, and then hang the Chain of Hearts mobile under a shade tree or outside your bedroom window and watch those hearts dance gently in the wind.

The aluminium tape is completely waterproof, so the garden mobile will last a long time.

I think Vincent van Gogh was so right when he said, “If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere.” And I must say, I really enjoy how the Chain of Hearts looks in the garden.

Thanks so much Katrin. I'm really glad how it turned out and it's weathered quite a few storms to and still looks like I made it yesterday. Aluminium tape is really cool

Oh how pretty! You are so creative, and I bet it's really lovely hanging in your garden. I haven't heard of a Cuttlebug but I have the Cricut and would love to have one. It's on my wish list!

Yay, thank you Linda. I love my little Cuttlebug for embossing but I really, really want a Cricut. I need to save harder though, our exchange rate just seems to get worse and worse.
