Making a Teddy Bear Swing and Other Interesting Things

Hello there, I hope you’re having a great day. We’ve been super busy in our bedroom. Mind out the gutter please, we’re old and it takes strategic planning to be that kind of busy 😉 We’ve been making over our boring chest of drawers, which is finally almost finished. But you know how these things go. When you start with one thing it invariably means something else has to change too. Like the wall behind the chest of drawers. It needed something more, like a little teddy bear swing.

If it doesn't have swings, it's not a playground 😉Click to Tweet

Hello everybody

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never outgrown my love for a cuddly teddy bear and they normally reside on our bed. Which is probably half the reason why we have to plan strategically 😀

A bedroom without a teddy bear is like a face without a smileClick to Tweet

Once you’ve fed the purr babies and taken the teddies off the bed you’re just too tired to do anything else.

Back to the teddy bear swing.

How To Make a Teddy Bear Swing

This must have been one of the fastest DIY’s in the history of DIY’ing. Okay making the second fastest DIY that involves teddy bears. All you need is a piece of wood that’s wide enough to accommodate a teddy bear’s bottom, some rope and a drill.

What you need to make the swing

Drill four holes into the piece of wood about an inch from the corners.

Drill four holes

Stain or paint the piece of wood to match your décor if you want to. We burnt our piece of wood with a heat gun and then sanded it down lightly. Don’t you just love the colors?

Stain or paint the wood

Cut two pieces of rope and thread it through the four holes. I found it easier to tape of the edges of the rope so it wouldn’t fray. To thread the rope, push the rope through from the top of the swing seat, and then down under and back up again.

Thread the rope through

Tie the end of the rope to the long bit, making sure that both sides are equal.

Bottoms up and tying the rope

To hang the teddy bear swing we just hammered two conduit saddles into the ceiling, but normal hooks would probably work too.

Hang her up

Did you notice our popcorn ceiling. According to the people who know these things, they’re soooo not cool, but I don’t actually mind them. I like counting popcorn kernels. It helps me sleep 😉

If you like the idea of a teddy bear swing don’t forget to save it for later.

Would you make a swing for your teddy bear? I’d really love to know. The hubby says it’s I’m a bit weird, so please let me know if there are any fellow weirdos out there.

Hey there Christine, I missed you. Thank you so much

This little swing is so adorable. It really makes the cute teddy bear stand out. It would also be very handy for keeping high end vintage teddy bears away from jam covered hands if you need to give "ted" the odd rest from service. Really cute

You know, I become a reader of your blog since I've been preparing my wedding and I didn't notice that my fiancé becomes your fan too. He's just sent me this post and asked me if I want to add a family of teddy in the swing. HAHAHA
    • Posted: March 28, 2017 16:24

Oh no ways Jennifer, that's so cool. Wishing you both all the love in the world and may you make many teddies together ;-)

I still have my teddy bear I had as a child. She would have loved a swing like this. It is so cute. Unfortunately, Teddy is too old to swing so maybe I should get a younger one so I can make a swing.
    • Posted: March 18, 2017 09:28

That's so cool Debra. I've still got one of mine too, her name is boeboes but she's probably more of a monkey than a teddy.
  • Posted: March 14, 2017 22:32

This is so cute, I would love this but the boys would go crazy for it :) x
    • Posted: March 15, 2017 06:54

I'm so glad to hear that your little monkeys would go crazy for the teddy bear swing, thank you Yvonne

Seeing this, I wish I was a child again.... And thinking about further development of this project, what if we multiply the swing and actually turn it into a ladder made of spring and wood, so more toys could be hanged like this?
    • Posted: March 15, 2017 06:58

That's a great idea Gabi, then all the teddies can have a swing :D
  • Posted: March 14, 2017 14:01

This is so cute! I love it! I don't have many teddys right now. Although I do have some sheep (just the cute stuffed animal) that are always on my bed. Though, I don't know how they would balance on a swing...
    • Posted: March 14, 2017 15:03

Mmmmm, I've never seen a sheep on a swing. That could be interesting

Such a super cute idea for a kids room Michelle!!
    • Posted: March 14, 2017 13:55

Thanks so much Ilka, although this little teddy is in our main bedroom, but we're kids too, right?
  • Posted: March 14, 2017 04:06

Ok Michelle you had me laughing at that first paragraph. You're too funny! The little teddy bear swing is so cool!! You have a really beautiful collection of bears. I think it's a great idea to have a swing for the bears. Eventually you'll have grandchildren and your grandkids are going to think grandma is a rockstar with all those teddy bears and she even made a swing for them. ;)
    • Posted: March 14, 2017 06:16

I never thought of that Keri. Grandkids are a super excuse to collect more teddies too ;-)
  • Posted: March 14, 2017 03:36

I need to do this! My kids have so very, many many stuffed animals, and this is very cute.
    • Posted: March 14, 2017 06:23

I'm glad you like it Kellie, thank you so much
  • Posted: March 14, 2017 02:41

Such a cute idea! PS: I think your purr baby is trying to steal the show here;)
    • Posted: March 14, 2017 04:21

Ahhh yes, that purr baby stole my heart the first time I saw her at the rescue center. Thanks so much Bree

    Jas @All that's Jas

Tape the edges! Why didn't I think of that? You're absolutely genius and that's a cutest thing I ever saw.
    • Posted: March 14, 2017 04:25

LOL Jas, I've never heard that saying before :D
  • Posted: March 13, 2017 21:00

Who cares about popcorn ceiling when you have such a cutie to look at! I love the idea of a swing for a special bear, you know, among some of the few things my brothers and I kept from our parents house were some Steiff teddies that now must be about 50 years old! They'd look amazing on a swing like yours!
    • Posted: March 14, 2017 06:22

That's so stunning Katrin, some of those Steiff teddies are worth a fortune now.
  • Posted: March 13, 2017 20:02

We have so many teddy bears around here. This would an adorable way to display some of them. Although, my little wild ones just might try to swing themselves. ;)
    • Posted: March 14, 2017 04:27

Oh dear, yes, that could be a problem. We'll just have to build a bigger one so they can all swing together
  • Posted: March 13, 2017 18:48

    Angie ~ ambient wares

You're hilarious, Michelle! The swing is a great addition to your decor and teddy looks perfect and quite comfy on it. Your purr baby is beautiful too :)
    • Posted: March 14, 2017 04:20

;-) Thank you Angie and Cleo says thank you too
  • Posted: March 13, 2017 17:14

    Mary - theboondocksblog

Well I kept most of my kids first teddy bears and bunnies. I don't know if they want them or not. Oh well...a momma's gotta do the right thing. I think your swing is adorable. A great way to keep the teddies around and out of your bed. My bed is so full of pillows I barely fit in there.
    • Posted: March 13, 2017 16:45

Thank you Mary, I think that's where most of our teddies come from...the kids. They grow out of them but I never did. Now if only I could figure out what to do with all the others.
