There are so many things that I’m grateful for. The pride and joy I feel every time I look at our gorgeous children, who BTW, are turning into the most stupendously, awesome human beings. The silly antics of our fur babies that make us laugh when we sit on the stoep and have a beer at the end of a long day. All our friends, old and new, that are always there when we need them. Our family that surrounds us with love and never stop encouraging us. And Spring. Oh boy, I am so over looking like the Michelin Man every time I get dressed. I’m a definitely a Spring baby. I love seeing the fruit trees blossom and lying on the grass to try and catch the first glimpse of swallows as they come back. I love the smell of rain and how it washes away Winter’s dustiness. Yup, I’m a full on Spring baby. So to celebrate the return of Spring I made these little JOY blocks to remind me of all that’s good and beautiful in my life.
They’re really easy to make. All you need is a left over piece of 2 x 2 wood, a glue gun and some aluminium tape. If you can’t find aluminium tape, duct tape will work just as well.
The piece of 2 x 2 we used was left over from some project we did. I think we used it to test our new router bits or something like that. Anyways, I cut the piece into 3 squarish blocks while I waited for the glue gun to heat up. Once the glue gun was ready I wrote the letters J, O and Y on each of the bits.
Oh look my O’s a bit wobbly, lol!! I don’t know what it is about a glue gun, sometimes I’m super confident and other times, I get the silly shakes. When the glue’s dried wrap the squares in tape and use an ear bud to smooth the tape around the letters.
All done 😉 What makes this such a fun DIY is that you can write anything you like on the blocks of wood. The most difficult thing was probably controlling the silly glue gun shakes.
We’re slowly adding other joyful bits and pieces to our gallery wall. We re-purposed that gorgeous silver urn into a Moroccan light and made the tree of life out of an old bicycle wheel. All the art of is original and when I get more time to paint, I’ll definitely be creating some more.
If you like the idea don’t forget to pin it for later 😉
What would you write on your blocks? Let me know in the comments, I’d love to hear about it and as always wishing you a very joyful week and sending you much love and blessing.
